Hello all, I'm looking for a good and strong carving vise for detailing bowls still on the chuck but also for carving in general and, this is important, using a mallet.

I was leaning toward the Woodcut Pro-mount and then I saw the Vermec one. The last seems very complex but also very adaptable.
Any experience with these vises? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Have used them both and both are excellent. I'd lean towards Vermec as it is more versatile with more adjustments.

this one is the best I reckon by far, I have one, or rather one similar made to suit my particular requirements :)

I have the Vermec, very solid and I am very happy with it after trying a few other types

A lot of carvers I have spoken to say that this is a good vice to go for Veritas Tools - Vises and Clamping - Carver's Vise (http://www.veritastools.com/Products/Page.aspx?p=134) . They say that it locks into place nicely.

Like you I have been looking into a vice for carving and piercing off the lathe as well as having a go at carving in general.
