A friend gave me a bit of Tasmanian myrtle to make a box. It proved quite difficult to chase a thread even with the use of CA glue. To overcome the problem I inserted some gidgee into both parts. The whole process turned out ok. Seeing I was in the mood, I made another one for myself out of some Queensland maple. The maple would not play the game either, so I had to resort to inserting some gidgee again. That gidgee is really nice to chase threads. This box is 75mm high and 50mm diameter, and has a mother of pearl insert on the top and some detail from a texturing tool. Oh!! and yes there is a bit of glue in there too. :D C and C most welcome.

Very nice little box, like the addition of the gidgee.

I like the design Jim, especially the inlay and chatterwork.

Nice box Jim
I experimented with glueing in a thread friendly collar on the inside of the lid and the outside of the tennon but I found it too bulky.Your method is better .I will have to try it.

Thanks Ted, the part of the insert that is threaded, is only 3mm thick plus the extra for the bead.

I think that not taking the thread did you a favour as it has turned out with a great nice contrast between the woods. Well turned and decorated, again not over done on the decoration:2tsup::2tsup:

Nice box Jim. Reminds me of something someone said about nothing I ever made "elegant simplicity" :2tsup:

The image looks under exposed which could explain the darker colour.

I took that photo at night, inside with a flouro light. The box is not, in reality, quite that dark.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Yes there was a lot of work there.
