I have always liked the Japanese style bowls and have never really tried to make one, so this is the first attempt at one.
Made from cherry and oak and a piece of copper wire from the workmen that are trying to repair the street light.
It measures 4" across and 4 3/4" tall the bowl section is 2 3/8" tall to the top of the handle brackets.
The copper handle on the left does not look right in the photo's but I have now sorted that out(did not notice until I reviewed the photo's)

Nice one Derek. That looks great. :2tsup:
I'll bet you had fun shaping the rim of the bowl to take the handle.

What finish did you use?

Good to see you back on Steve, The rim is easier than you might think I marked it while it was on the lathe and when I was turning the foot off and had the bowl in my cole jaws I cut two slots with a Japanese saw as it was the only one I had with fine teeth. Then removed and cut down the sides of the handle uprights finally shaping with sandpaper

I've come back to this several times.

You've really captured the feel of Japan in this piece and the effect of the lid really adds to it.

You've done it again Derek :2tsup: as it appeared again on page 8 of the Woodturning magazine.

Getting to be a habit now for me to look at that page first to see if you're featured in it. :U

Peter.

Thank you Peter I have a copy of that issue. Will not be any for a while as I am busy building a toy train which has some turning in it http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=183813, even though I have just completed a simple bowl which I will post here in the woodturning section.
