Thought I'd share my progress for those who I've met and who've helped me tremendously up to this point.

Finally launched my website: www.makimaki.com.au (http://www.makimaki.com.au)

Only a few bits and bobs on there, but has been a lot of hard work, time and money to set up shop, a new business and finally ready to start taking orders and making!

I'm now also in a position to meet and collaborate with other designers and makers.

Firstly I'm not looking to employee anyone at this stage.

So, there's a few workable scenarios.

Rent and share my workshop at Chandler making your own stuff.
Freelance on a job by job basis making my designs for a set project fee.

Down the track I will be looking for a partner to potentially co design and build with, but this is some way off.

14” bandsaw
635mm Dual Drum Sander
Clear Vue Max dust extractor
Router
Biscuit Joiner
Cordless Drill
Impact Driver
Random Orbit Sander
4” Angle Grinder
etc..

Amenities:

Let me know if you're interested.

Cheers,

Cam.

Looks good sofa, but there seems to be a major omission, externally venting ducted dust extraction.

Thanks Bob, Ductwork to go is soon and will be exhausted through the wall on the far side.

Are you saying it should go into a filter cartridge?

Cheers.

What wongo said.

The person doing the photography really knows what they are doing with lighting, particularly "Interior" top left. That pic rips!

I like the fluidity of the site too.

Thank you! I do all my own photos etc.

Gotta say, dragging furniture around the place to take photos is a chore though.. Might have to knock up a little studio space outside the shed.

Cheers for the kind words.

Thats a great setup, nice and roomy.i wish you every success.
There is nothingin your post about setup for finishing. What are you planning there?

Also, you've clearly made a deliberate decision to depersonalise your website. Why is that ?

Cheers

If it's venting outside I wouldn't bother. For light duties filters and good needle felt bags let through the same amount of fine dust but cartridges have a bigger surface area so can maintain more flow for longer and don't need to be removed to be semi cleaned, so if you have these already I would use them.

Hey Arron,

Thanks for the encouragement!

There's plenty of room inside and out for finishing (not pictured), but no dedicated space yet.
To be honest most of my work so far has just been oiled, and I have a table outside undercover which works.

Any words of advice though? What do you have/ recommend?

The reason to 'depersonalise' my site is for a few reasons.
Marketing: My market wants a high end brand, not a joe blogs piece.
Opportunity to diversify: I have the opportunity for collaborations, other designers/makers etc to fall under the makimaki banner. It's also not 'woodworking' for that same reason. I make furniture - and that can be as broad as I like.
Reputation: Far easier to build and establish a reputation as a brand/company opposed to an individual.

Cheers!

the question that must be asked -- what will the neighbour's say when your dust system is running and exhausting wood dust on their plants and washing?

Fortunately it's on a property so the neighbours are far enough away, and through scrub.

In saying that, time will tell. I'll adjust it as necessary, happy neighbours are nearly as important as a happy wife.

I was expecting a spray booth - just from the productivity angle. However I dont really know how high-end furniture is finished - never bought any.

Nice website and really nice work. :2tsup:

I also like the name 'MakiMaki'. It has a good ring to it.
