Hello people,

I am a new small business owner, I make rocking horses, rocking motorcycles and other wood items.

My question is to do with the issue of value -v- quality -v- attributes.

My personal preference for timber in my rocking horses and cycles is 1" pine ply (please don't gasp). http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/wink.gif

My reasons for selecting this is because of the enourmous strength this wood has, the great visual effects you get when shaping the timber - (by sanding and routing it) - the layers of ply give a great effect to the shape of the item and the cost effectiveness of this material, which I pass onto clients.

To illustrate this, have a look at

This is a photo of my 'First Wheels' model. The buyer loved the effects of the ply and I have received a lot of positive feedback when I show my items.

I am now considering diversifying my wood options for my rockers. Can anyone suggest an appropriate wood type that is strong, durable, easy to work with and not really expensive (as these costs pass on to the buyer) ??

Thanks.

Dear Lord,
May my Woodworking someday aspire to be as good as my Darts, and vice-versa. . . .

Rex.
