Hey everyone, i bought an african blackwood guitar back set a few months back with a few curly and burly sections along the edges.
Alas, they're a bit too light in colour for what i'm after, so i've decided that i'd be prepared to swap them for either some darker figured african blackwood, or else some nice dark bits of bois de rose/dalbergia maritima, or possibly another dark purplish reddy rosewood.
I've also got some larger bits of dark purplish brown katalox, as well as a couple of bigger boards of kingwood that i'd be prepared to trade for the right woods...(or a few scraps of ivory or tortoiseshell for any antique restorers or collectors out there). :q

Here's a shot of the blackwood boards.

And one of another board from the same lot as my katalox boards. Mine are slightly narrower, but have no sapwood and the same dark purple colour as well as the same 4/4 (1 inch) thickness

Cheers,

Damien.

In this case i'm afraid its Dalbergia Congestiflora, as Cearensis proved impossible to get in big enough pieces. Though colourwise the congestiflora does seem to be more vivid. The colours in the pic are absolutely accurate, with the darker bits in the middle of the two boards being the spots i smoothed down and gave a clear coat of wax to. The smaller, redder board's about 1.2 metres long by about 12cm wide and 2.5 thick, while the bigger more purple one's about 1.5 metres long, 14cm wide and 2.5 thick.

Here's a shot of a smaller off cut from the katalox too, and a scale shot of the figured blackwood

As a little update,
for the time being at least i've decided not to swap these. I've got a project that might be happening soon that'll need a bit of african blackwood burl, so i'll need everything i've got for that. Once its done we;ll see how much is left.
