first pen turning

this is my first attempt at pen turning, shapes may need a bit of refining, but overall I am not unhappy with these.308567308566

All in good time ,the shaping will come with confidence and what appeals to you (and hopefully your recipients) hehe. Looks like you used "glow" as a finish it can come up very nicely ,but on pens can dull very quickly , not a bad effort to start off with ,its a slippery slope from here on though :) The humble slim is a good beginner as the basics carry over for almost every pen you will make in the future ,some single bodied pens are actually much easier to make :) on a slim you have to match 4 diameters the nib,the clip,and the centre band so more chances to make a mistake, single bodied pens you only have to match 2 diameters :) Most likely you will go next for streamlines ,almost identical kits with a thicker centre band ,no need to make them quite so full bodied then hehe. cheers ~ John (and welcome to the addiction) :;

Great to see you showing us your work. Like most, you started with a Slimline and have done a great job on it by adding a few curves. I am not a fan of real fat bodies on them, but everyone has different likes. I am sure you are very pleased with your first one as we all were when starting out. Soon you will be looking for other options in kits and shapes, and that only adds to the fun. Make sure you hang on to those 2 so that you have a referrence point for where you started, when you are up to your 500th pen LOL.
Keep up the good work, and keep showing them to us. We always like to see what others are doing and how they are progressing.

thank you for the kind comments , and I am loving the pen turning, I find its great that you can create something out of such small leftover scraps of wood. I am looking at the streamline kits ,lol, I like the shape better, so stay tuned. rosie:roll:

Great first up effort Rosie, as Dallas said keep those first two as a reference in years to come, you will be amazed at the progression. Keep up the good work and maybe look at the sierra as a future pen as they only have one barrel and are popular as they take a parker style refill.
