Ah I call it experience. So inspired by smiife and his twisted candle stick holders I thought (as I often do) 'these things can't take that long'
On that note I had never done one before I marked one out.
The first one took me about 4 hours and by no means finished. These two .... Make that one and a half took me all day.

I thought I'd get apart and mark out a matching pair on a single blank. Then I tried to trim the blank square after I made the too spiral on my drop saw with a blunt blade.
To add to my stupidity I thought I would put a router bit in my drill press and try and hand feed the bottom section. I had a guide either side so it was just a case of push and twist.

It works brilliant in principle.
Oh well such is life.
I call the top piece DNA.
While I has my guide set up I thought I'd swap over to v bit and engrave a message to my wife.
Back to te drawing board
