Hello All i have just got my self an older type of lathe its my first wood working lathe and just woundering if any one knows much about it
its a Ryobi HL100 with the sanding disk at the back.
some info would be good because at the moment all it has is a face plate, i made up a jig so i can turn plates but i cant turn stuff like candle sticks and so forth.
Is there a chuck or something that i can get for it?
Thank you

G'day Sparky,

There are hundreds of requests for manuals etc on the internet as there are tens of thousands of these units about and clones are still sold today. You should be able to find a clone version of your lathe in many hardware stores or even Bunnings if you want to find or read the manual.

The lathe you have appears to have a 3/4" x 8 spindle thread. If you are real lucky it may have a morse taper 1 (MT1) hollow head stock spindle. The 3/4" x 8 chuck inserts are not very common but should be readily available for small scroll chucks or can be manufactured to order. http://vermec.tripod.com/PDFs/inserts_and_spanner.pdf

You could consider something like the Vermec Collett chuck on http://vermec.tripod.com/id1.html

Try http://www.toolspareparts.com.au/page/shop/browse_parts/a/category/e/Ryobi-HL100-Spare-Parts for their spur drive (parts 8 & 55) etc.

Be advised that the Ryobi HL100 and similar lathes (clones) are very lightly built for a wood lathe and that any planed turning projects should take that into account. Be safe.
