This is my first attempt at this sort of thing, and a few mistakes were made. (Be gentle). The base of the "flower" is too heavy for the piece, and maybe the cup is also too big, but it was designed to hold pot pourri. 155mm high and 60mm base from Camphor Laurel. Anyway, I hope you like it. The bowl is of Jacaranda, 250mm diameter and 65mm high. The finish is Penetrol Wood Oil, 4 coats. Two views of each from different aspects.

Thanks for looking. Doug:U

stunning stuff :2tsup:. Definitely something for me to aspire to. I have some camphor (courtesy of smife) but expect I will be embarrassed to show the end product after seeing this one!!!

cheers

Very nice work Doug. I especially like the flower. :2tsup:

It's a further incentive to experiment with cutting into turnings to shape petals etc. Been meaning to try that sort of thing for a while, but haven't built up the courage yet. I don't want to turn a nice looking piece then destroy it by hacking into it.

Great work. Interesting direction to follow with the flower.

I think the base needs to be big otherwise the top will be too heavy. How big / deep is the cup?

Christos; The cup is about 40mm diameter and about 50mm deep. Fun to make too, and don't worry about breaking one or two, but you do need a gentle touch with the Dremel. Doug. :U
