Hi,
Having got hold of an industrial sewing machine I decided to make my own boat cover (size approx 3 metres x 2 metres). I'm talking about a canvas type cover that will go from the back of the cabin to the stern, to protect my newly renovated boat from the elements and seagulls when the boat is on it's mooring. I would like some suggestions as to what material to use and is there any Australian marine fabric suppliers you would recommend. I know about the US made "Sunbrella" material but it is too expensive for my wallet, so I guess am looking for something a bit cheaper but still reasonably durable.

Any suggestions please?

Have a look at Cordura fabric. It's not cheap but it'll last!

You could try Warwick fabrics. They have some outdoor fabrics.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check out your suggestions.

After further research I found a fabric called Weathermax 80 that seems to be what I need. It's not cheap, but not as expensive as buying Sunbrella in Australia. It also has a 5 year warranty so should be ok.

Paskal in Braeside could be worth looking at, http://www.paskal.com.au/

Thanks mob,
I'm going down to Melbourne next week so I'll call in at Paskal's while I'm in the area.
