Kick Press

Hi Guys,

I've moved into the new place and now have a shed……..Not close to set up or worked out where anything is going. One of the many items to have come out of long forgotten storage is a kick press.

I think I originally bought it for the cast iron base with the intention of turning it into a table…. Being much older and wiser..or not..I think I'd rather keep it whole and use it as a press. Having said that it has no tooling with it or plates..

I am aware you can shear, broach, punch, bend, crimp, stake, rivet, etc. but all with the right tooling. So any ideas on how to make it useful without spending much??

I use to have several small fly presses, that I made tooling for from mild steel to bend Z brackets for. Hole punches (from proper punches/dies for press machinery) adapted to hold the dies and punch from mild steel also. If making hole punches make sure you fit a stripper to it, Not the type from Kings X.:D. Depending on the size of the unit 8mm, holes in 3mm metal should be handled with little effort.

Nice find with the linisher, looks like your shed mate is trying to tell you he needs a drink:D The attachment of tooling for the fly press is similar to your kick press. You just need to work out what you are going to do with it.

The linisher is a home made job (not by me) Which was a bit bent up and worse for wear but now running. My shed mate is just a pup, although he already hits the scales at 26kg and eats 2kg raw meat plus veggies and 2 cups of dried food a day!! He is also a tool, glove, and wood thief.:~ I gave him my empty water bottle to save some of the latter from those jaws.
