Can anyone make out what this saw blade stamp says?

Not much to go on here, but there is something. I believe I see an "LES" on the left side (maybe for Charles?) and "ROBIN" and some blank space followed by "SONS & CO". There's also a partial word showing below -- not sure on that one. I've tried to find something on CHARLES ROBINSON, but nothing.

You sure its a LES, I'm seeing a MES so maybe James.

The words underneath to me look like a GERMAN***

Be interesting to see what other see.

I do see an M as well. I also did some searching and found a reference to a saw that had the words GERMAN STEEL stamped on it. That could be the bottom part.

Can't see anyone immediately among Sheffield makers which might match... although German Steel was common enough later in the 19th century on British Saws.

The only one which matches is James Robertson Co Montreal 1871-1896 So It might be a Canadian saw, or a Sheffield saw made for a Canadian retailer?

But looks about right for 1880 ish

Yes, I'd agree with that... Thomas Robinson & Sons of Rochdale would be a better match... Not quite so well known for handsaws (PAX maybe?) , but they did make a lot of sawing machinery..

I found Thomas Robinson Sons & Co also, but I'm fairly sure the first part ends in ES, not AS.

I found the handle that came on this blade. Does it look like it could be original? There looks to have been a repair at some point on the bottom of the handle.

The handles were like that in the early 1800s ... and on the cheaper late 1800s.

There's this from about the right time in South Australia ... 1817-1894 ... would be a fun result :)

There was a 'Barbenson' name on that page ... might be a stretch :)

No idea what complete the "James Robin ....son & Co"
