Hello, does nayone have an electronic copy of the book Timber and Health by Eleanor Bolza ( CSIRO publication 1976), ISBN number 064302039X ?

it is supposed to be the definitive book on adverse impacts of various timbers on your health

I cannot find it anywhere - local library, eBay, book stores etc

Thanks Ian, that's the one. Only problem is to get a copy of it. Doubt they will send a copy to Townsville :)

Which was why I was looking for an electronic copy.

In the meantime I have discovered a lot of info on the Benevolent Dictators Website here (http://ubeaut.com.au/woodstuf.htm) supplied under the heading "Bad Woods"

Hi Dengy, Whenever I want a book I go to our Library & ask them if they can get the book in. You have the ISBN, so it should not be a problem. It most certainly wood be out of print by now, but you never know your luck. Bonnie Klein has a new book out, so the Library said they maybe able to get it in. A lot of small Projects in it, which is right up my alley.

Hi Dengy

as Issatree said -- ask your local library. It can borrow from the National Library even if you (as an individual) can't.
Also, for things like CSIRO publications, the National Library will often copy the book for you. Worth the enquiry

Hi Dengy

Just checked the full catalogue listing
It's 19 pages -- if I've read the price chart correctly, it only costs $16 or so to get the National Library to make a copy for you

I have a copy somewhere of the timbers listed in that publication, and the possible effects on people. I will look for it and make you a copy if you like.

Many thanks to all who replied above, esp Jim who sent me a copy.

I also requested an inter-library loan (ILL) as one of the members suggested. I have done a similar request to the ILL group at my local library before, without success - no response.

Lo and behold this morning ( Saturday) I got an email saying the ILL had arrived, so I darted down there and brought it home. An old publication, the pages are not white any more, but in quite reasonable condition. So I scanned the book ( all 19 pages), tidied it up, and uploaded it on my server. It is 28MB file size, and you can download it here (http://www.dasq.com.au/timber). I don't think this is breaking any copyright laws, as the book is out of print, is quite old, and is a CSIRO publication. I could only find copies of it in the UQ Library and the National Library

I think that our Benevolent Dictator's site here (http://ubeaut.com.au/woodstuf.htm) on Badwoods includes this information

Reading the ILL paperwork from UQ, it states that the book was published over 15 years ago, was acquired over 10 years ago, and has not been borrowed more than once in the past 5 years. The book itself shows it was published in 1976.

Obviously not on the best sellers list
