Can anyone give me any information on Durian Timber. A friend of mine was contemplating importing some from Indonesia. When he asked me about its properties/workability etc I was reminded of how small my knowledge is in the timeber area.

Two sources to start with, I have not seen the wood but we tried the fruit once, we honestly thought something had died in the dining area. The smell is absolutely repulsive. Fermenting dead wombat is nectar of the Gods in comparison. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/eek.gif

I once caught a `bus' (Mazda bongo van) from Lake Toba to Sibolga in Sumatra which was jam-packed with local families. Throughout the 8 hour trip the kids ate durian and proceeded to vomit it up, so that the floor was awash with the stuff. The same thing happened all the way back too. Durian, custard apple and anything else remotely like fruits of that ilk have been well and truly off my menu ever since. Durian wood? No thanks!
