Am in the process of making/butchering a japanese style (very loose connection) chest. In fact I have made it and am now looking to finish it.

What I am looking for are some large black 3 way decorative corner covers (hope thats the technical name for them :p ) a large catch/latch for the front - also black - and possibly some ormanental black T pieces as decoration. I have tried a couple of the major hardware stores to no avail and have done the obligatory search here with no results, can anyone point me in the right direction.

Either Melbourne or Geelong areas or even a website.

Hi Rowan

These people have the corners. Not much in the way of choice, but may be a starting point.

Look under accessories, then gun case corners

You could also try Timbecon

Lee Valley have a line of Tansu fittings - just look up 'tansu' in the search box. There are 2 grades of fittings.

Misugi Designs also sell high grade Tansu fittings - search 'tansu' on Google & you'll find them there somewhere.

You will also find suitable handles in the better 'Arts & Crafts'/'Mission' areas of a few on-line suppliers - Stickley and Green & Green were very much influenced by the then current Japanese fad.
