The half round blew out so I turned a finial out of Blackwood and gave it a coat of vinegar and steel wool, ( thankyou Willie)
after looking at it a more slender finial might be on the cards!
Thankyou to this forum for inspiration!
C and C welcome!

Nice. :2tsup:
You sure bang things out quickly.

The piece of Blackwood ebonised well. Nice and black, with just a hint of the original colour showing through.
I've used the vinegar/steel wool method, (AKA Liquid Nightmare), a lot. (My VW Beetle tyres were done that way.) Works well on high-tannin timbers. Brewers tannin, (tanivin), can also be applied first, on low-tannin timbers, then allowed to dry before the iron acetate mix is applied, to help the process along.

Turned out great Chuck. A slender finial is definitely the way to go.
