Handmade Saw Commission

Hi Fellas,

I'd like to have some saws made. I'm looking for quality materials, experienced craftsmanship, and, most importantly, Australian timber totes which match both in design and material selection.

I'd definitely be looking for a dovetail saw at the least. Ideally, however, we could work something out that results in a complete set of saws including dovetail, rip panel, crosscut panel, and at least one medium sized back saw.

I don't know if anyone does this kind of commission work in Australia, or if anyone knows someone who is doing this kind of work, but any contacts or feedback on the possibility of making this happen would be greatly appreciated.

I dunno... I mean for a set of matching saws that I helped design and which are the last saws I will ever need to buy? Over a grand. Less than two.

My take would be that your best bet on panel saws would probably be refurbished or tricked up saws from the early 1900s, easy enough to make new handles out of aussie timbers

I'd put my hand up but have enough trouble with time in making my own.

There are a few saw makers on here that could make what you are looking for, I'd agree that IanW would do a good job, (if you can convince him to take it on ) Or Stewie's (aka planemaker) saws are just magnificient in their attention to detail and craftsmanship.

What you propose is an interesting project, just following the progress, through the selection of timber for handles, choice of design etc.. will be good to follow.
