Having worked the steel industry for most of my life and have some experience in machining to a tolerance of a couple of thousands of an inch, I try to be as accurate as possible when constructing my wooden projects. A tenth of a millimeter for mortises measuring from the 100mark on the tape for most of the more accurate cuts, and given that I use cad to draw most things before construction, I can mostly cut out an entire project and then dry fit with minimal alterations. I thought that hand made meant hand made. They use of these machines, mainly far out of reach any normal person, in my opinion turns a craft into mass production.

How can you work to such fine tolerances anyway, when a simple change in humidity will alter those tolerances by many times.

Just my thoughts.
