Note the swept back grind on the big gouge and how it is used hollowing the bowl.

That guy is GOOD!! Looks as though he has made a bowl or two in his lifetime.

Interesting the use of a screw chuck. I thought that was something relatively new to wood turning. His base must be thick but this is a piece to be used and it still looks good. Love to know if any of his work is still around today.

Also his hook tool was interstin, not seen one before

Very interesting. I too would like to know more about the hooked tool. It seems to be for finishing. Did I see right? He also used it for the pilot hole?

Thats what it looked like to me. Would love to have seen that with better resolution and lighting but still an enjoyable watch.

To a search on Google.

I bought a home made one from a turner selling off his surplus. I used it for about 30 seconds, had a catch, broke the hook tool, flung the bowl out of the lathe.

I think people who use the foot powered lathes use them.

It was hard to tell but even when he was sharpening it there appeared to be flex in the blade, could not make out if it was the lighting or flex
