bollie7 11th January 2015, 10:15 AM G'day All
My brother recently came across this. We have absolutely no idea what it is. It appears to be some sort of setting gauge or maybe a sharpening jig.
It has the name "Disston" (or could be Bisston - bit hard to tell if its a D or a B) U.S.A cast into it.
Hopefully someone here can tell us what it is.
Thanks

bob ward 11th January 2015, 11:07 AM An aligning jig for long skinny things? Maybe for silver soldering band saws?
garryhatty 11th January 2015, 11:10 AM Disston was a well known name in woodworking tools 50 odd years ago: saws, planes, etc. My old man had heaps of Disston woodworking tools. The detail on the underneath is not clear so difficult to guess. A Saw Set (for setting saw teeth)? Someone in woodworking would know.

Disston tools in the US started as a saw works*, so that is quite possible

Gavin Newman 11th January 2015, 11:16 AM Disston make very good timber saws (timber - it's that brown, non-magnetic, stuff that some people insist on building things out of) - I have a couple that I inherited from my grandfather - so it's likely to be saw setting or repairing related.
It might be worth contacting the company to see if they know. http://www.disstontools.com/contactus.aspx
Jekyll and Hyde 11th January 2015, 11:16 AM Quick google search of Disston USA led to me to a post on another forum, which indicates that it is a saw jointer and raker guage.

It's a jointer and raker setting gauge for crosscut/bucking or felling saws. http://stevetomlincrafts.wordpress.com/2012/01/25/crosscut-saw-jointer-raker-guage/
