This was a pretty bland looking blank that was much better than expected. Only prob is I don't know what is!

As to the timber I would suggest CL but you would have known by the odour.

I was going suggest tas myrtle, but have only ever seen a few pics....def not camphor. Shavings were closer to pink coming off the tool...ta.

Yep, I thought myrtle too!.
Doesn't only grow in Tassie. Grows in Victoria as well, however I think they call it beech? over there.
If we must be pedantic then the scientific name is " Nothofagus cunninghamii"

It also looks abit like cherry beech. Turned up in a pack of pine at work and ended up I'm my shed.very nice turning.
