A mate came my way the other day with a pretty bit of timber that he called "MYALL WATTLE". I must be honest and admit that I have never heard of it before. It turns nicely and holds a good finish has a very highly defined grain with prominent dark brown bands interspaced with light brown and in places red. Has a definite odour after turning and working but this is not really offensive, just strong. I'm hoping that he comes and visits me again with a bit more in his hot little hands.

Can anyone please tell me what this timber could be.

Myall genus is acacia.

I have 3 species listed: pendula and sowdenii are listed under the common name of Myall and calaicola under the common name of Myall-gidgee.

Similar to gidgie which is also an acacia.

Hope this helps - Neil http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/smile.gif

A bit more on your Myall.
I have purchased 'Boree' from a couple of different places and botanically it is supposed to be Acacia pendula, but it also goes under the names - Myall, Weeping Myall, Nilyah, Ballar and Barstard Gidgee.

Good luck with the names of your woods.
