I just turned out my first end grain board using some blackwood off cuts and some Huon pine. It's 300x400x35 and weighs about 2.5kg. It took me a week to make and I'm feeling like I won't be making another one until I've had a rest from making this one!

Got some pretty nice grain pattern in there. Much debate in my head about the pros and cons of going to 220grit or not. Concerned about closing the grain structure so oil might not penetrate.

Looks beautiful :2tsup:. Shame it is destined to get covered in knife marks :-

Hopefully the theory holds that the knives don't do as much damage to end grain! It's for my sister in law and I've offered to dress it in 10 years time if it's still in one piece...

Now that is a fantastic piece. I haven't made one so I might be wrong on my thinking. Your second one will go a lot smoother to make. At least that's what I find when I make a second one of something. :U
