Decided today to do some marquetry incorporating aluminum.
the two pieces are cut at the the same time with the double bevel method.
The one piece which is Ayan with the aluminium inlay and the second piece is made from what would normally be the "reject" pieces,I think however is more dramatic with the visible gap from the saw blade. An added twist is the engine turning that I applied afterwards.

I am wondering if it would be more pronounced if the wood background was of a darker species?

Hi Christos, absolutely ,in any case any sanding or polishing of the aluminium produces a black residue which is nigh on impossible to remove from the wood grain so a timber like wenge or ebony is probably more suitable.

I wanted to try the aluminium as pewter sheet is somewhat harder to source.
