The idea for this bowl came about because of the error in this piece (http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=193092&p=1848740#post1848740).
I quickly turned up a small bowl out of a piece of silky oak. Turned a small plug and hollowed out a little bit towards to center. Mixed up some epoxy with some added red dye. I attached the plug to the bottom of the bowl and waited for this to dry.
Once the epoxy cured I continued to hollow out the bottom of the bowl until I started cutting into the epoxy. I switched to sandpaper to go through the grits.
I finished this with 2 coats of wipe on poly.
I like the way it has turned out and I think I should have sanded just a little more at the bottom of the bowl. Maybe I should have used yellow dye to add a little bit of contrast?
What do people think?
