porter cable Blow job um... bisquit joiner

I have had in me shed for a lttle while a porter cable BJ, havnt used it much to date (maybe twice before in anger). Told Jane today that "I was going into the shed for 30 mins to panel up some boards for the blanket box" that I've been harping on about hereabouts. I must say it only took 15 minutes to mark, cut and panel up 6 lengths of timber (10 bisquits). i was most impressed.. I know that any BJ would have done the same just as fast but none the less it was very quick and an enjoyable process.

Things I liked about the PC BJ :

sharp - stripped thru sheoak like nothing else
dust extraction - perfect no dust anywhere except the dust bucket
accurage and easy to set depth & heght
the cable is almost 2 m long - great!

the thing I didnt like is the angle setting rule -- the little curved aluminium rule screwed to the fence bent around the screw when replacing it in the box. this can be gotten around by replacing in the box carefully.

I highly recommend a PC BJ, one minor flaw doesnt matter.

i like BJ's and have known of em for a while but im only now starting to get into more production thus am starting to use me tools more.

As an aside Mr Major, I notice that you have a 2hp dustie with 2 bag capacity (JET???) (previous pics). tell me; does it suck excellent ? does it require 15A cct ? how many sucks can it give at a time (effectively of course) any dust around? what micron does it catch and do you recommend one of the microfibre pleated canisters? will a 2 hp effectivly drive a 44 gallon drum pre container ? or a cyclone setup ?

you see I want one; Jane has approved one and I dont know whether its worth getting a 2 hp 1700cfm and pay extra for a canister and therefore only have one bag capacity OR get a 2 hp 2000cfm with 2 pleated dacron bags (the standard blanky looking ones) ie no cansiter but have 2 bag capacity.

running 40 odd metres thru the under and over about 10 passes each produced about 10 bags of my 1hp dustie although I got a lot of shavings over the place due to not enough suck (therefore the need for 2hp). changing bags aint a big deal as I dont expect to do so much at once all the time however I can see the advantages (maybe get canisters later)

major, 3 horses and 4 connection points. do you have that much gear in a one man show ? is your ducting permanent ? thats a serious bit if kit - does it use 15A ? or standard 10A cct ?

Hey Zed,

Yup, 3hp, I will take off the 4 port inlet & use a 8"-6' reducer to run from the the 200ltr drums to the permanent pipe work.
I need over 2000CFM to run the dual drum sander efficently, also the 20" thicknesser produces shavings at a prodigious rate! :eek: :eek:
It's 15A & runs on the thicknesser/jointer/saw circuit.

Seeing that you like buying quality items ape boy, have a look at the cyclones that MWE have. Over a grand though so it doesn't compare too will on the price scale to a 2Hp dustie.

I've got the layout pretty well sorted but I've got to build a lockable lean-to outside the shed. It'll be 800mm deep X 3.2mts wide &2.7mts tall internally. This will house the 2 200ltr drums as well as the DC All I gotta do is get some time & some more money!! :( :rolleyes:

I thought about the former but didn't. The thread would have been modified not deleted. It is very rare that I delete a whole thread, tempting sometimes.

As to the second bit I have edited a few titles.
