Well the first two attempts at turning have yielded two pens and while they're not perfect, I'm pretty damned chuffed. I have no idea as to what the timber is apart from it being one of a few offcuts of an Aussie hardwood that was given to me by a local timber supplier to play with.............guess I should give him a pen as a way of saying thank you.

SWMBO has already claimed #1 as a birthday present so now I'm just waiting for her to make her first pen and I'm going to claim it :D

Keep it up, looking good.

Is the second pen stained, natural or is it the photograph giving it that purple tinge?

Cheers

Looks pretty good to me, though I've never tried it myself. I've seen the blanks though and have often been curious as to what's involved in turning a pen.

Can you go thru the process briefly?

Cheers,
Keith

Dai,

The purple tint is a result of the lighting, the first pic is much closer to the natural colour.

Keith,

Have a look at this site, it gives a basic run down on pen making...........http://www.davehylands.com/Wood-Working/Making-Pens/.

IMHO this is probably the best beginners site with the clearest and easiest to follow explanations on turning pens.:)
