NERD ALERT!!!!
A while back I bought one of these (http://camranger.com/features/) to use for HDR and time lapse photography, however it's been sitting in my camera bag for about 4 months untouched. Today I set it up on my camera and did some focus_stacking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_stacking) work.
On the first image I set the focus increment on Medium and took 50 shots. I only needed 7 shots to get focus between closest and furthest item. I deleted the unused images and processed the remaining images in Photoshop.
On the second image I set the focus increment on fin and took 100 shots. I needed 80 shots to achieve focus between closest and furthest item. As before I deleted the unwanted images and processed the remaining 80.
This is the final image from the set of 7 images.

It only took about half an hour to process the set of 7 images, but took around 2 hours to process the 80 images. When comparing the final results I'm not sure it was worth the extra effort of using 80 images (for this type of work anyway).
