greetings all;

I have just been presented with 2 pieces of Yellowbox gum - 100mm in diameter and about 900mm in lenght, and 4 pieces of stringybark of much the same proportions.

I wish to allow these pieces to dry a while and make use of them later.

My question is: what is an appropriate medium to seal the end grain with?

I vaugly remember reading an article which refered to using "pink" timber primer. I have also noticed that some timber is supplied with a wax seal on the ends.

At this point in time I have opted for the only paint I have availabe which is an acrylic sealer/undercoat.

G'day Kev - Melt some beeswax or a paraffin & beeswax mix of about 50/50 and coat with the molten wax.

I would get it out of the log first. It will radialy split unless you do. The wax won't stop that.
