The oil is for my Boley 5LZ headstock which runs plain spindle bearings at 3,550 rpm. The manual calls for oil with a viscosity of 4 centistrokes @ 50 degrees.
Anyone able to shed some light on a local alternative or a supplier of Velocite Nr 4.

I reckon a couple of liters would do it. I am not 100% sure as it has a sight glass but I have not located the capacity. It also uses drip oilers. I will drop you a PM.
Edit: I noticed you said Nr 3. That is the really thin stuff... so might not be a go.

Morlina S2 BL5 would do the job. Unfortunately Shell Australia only kept it for a single customer. The oil line reports they no longer have it and can't get it. What's more there is no alternative they could point to.
Not a good situation at all by the looks of things. I wonder if I could mix some Velocite Nr 3 and Nr 10 to get the right thickness... it would be a crapshoot however. As I have no way to test the viscosity in any accurate manner.

Is that the distributor up at Brighton? I have to go up there soon to pick up some oil for one of my sailing friends currently occupying my spare mooring. I could grab some of each/either & save you a trip. Let me know.

There is a website somewhere that has a calculator that will give you the proportions to get the right viscosity... I have used it to mix similar type oils before..

Machtool 14th April 2015, 06:35 PM In my travels around town, visiting numerous shops, I'm noticing a lot of shops running Fuchs oils, where Velocite used to be used. It would be worth a call to them. I got some VG 10 out of them, when no one else seemed to have it.
I can check what series it is latter in the week. I'll be visiting a customer that seems to run all Fuch's, where Velocite is specified.

Phil that is an interesting lead. I didn't know Fuchs did machinery oils. I see there is quite a lot of information on their website.
My problem is 90% solved in that the BP dealer was able to track down what sounded like the last 20 ltrs of Hyspin E5 in Australia. It is being trucked from QLD.
