I was wondering why I was having so much trouble undoing the darn thing. The centre part of the thread is all worn away where the machine has a pivot on it.

You might have to single point turn one ! At least you won't run into the chuck :U

Have to have a working lathe to do that……I also have never turned a thread, wouldn't know where to start. I'd like an easy fix on this one so I can get a project finished for a change, rather than wait for another machine to be finished before I can use it to finish another. I'm alway chasing my tail that way, going in circles.

.RC. 6th May 2015, 08:40 PM How long.... I would imagine a standard 5/8 left hand bolt not that hard to get.... years ago I had no trouble getting left hand nuts..

Like others have suggested, I would try the big fastener places first. In Tasmania Nuts and Bolts P/L are excellent, and they have some interstate stores too, but I don't know how extensive their network is. There are others, Coventry Fasteners being one and their minimum charge possible won't be a problem in your case, but check your local guys and maybe ring your nearest Nuts and Bolts store if postage won't completely blow your budget. I have no affiliation with Nuts & Bolts other than being a happy and satisfied customer, ditto LPL above.
jhovel 7th May 2015, 09:26 PM DSEL can you measure the length you need, thread and pitch and type (60deg or 55deg) and confirm what it is? I'll have a look for you at the local threading places. They have quite a few sizes.
The other thing you may not have considered is that you can get Allthread in LH in some sizes. Nuts are not generally a prolem at all.

DSEL74 16th May 2015, 10:06 AM I did try Keables and fyi they have moved to west footscray. The said they only Cary lh nuts, never ever stocked bolts. According to them lh bolts are all custom made. I have tried a number of stores nine carry lh bolts either. They are used in production machines so finding a matching one as a spare part would be a needle in a hay stack.
