I've finally got the cash together to buy a new check for my lathe, and it has indexing marks behind the chuck.

How are these supposed to be used?

Thanks,

Craig

I know you said you have a chuck with indexing this is a face plate or index plate which shows how the indexing is located. What you need is the bracket and leaver and pin to suit see this link (http://alisam.com/page/14g9e/Woodworking_turning_OT.html)

Thanks for posting the suggestions. I like the bracket solution as I can pick up something fairly strong to do the trick and at a decent price. Not sure of the second option would work for me, but have to admire the clever design :)

You could go up market with http://www.vermec.com/vermec-lathe-accessories.html

I picked up a GPW deluxe set, which is a huge improvement over the original Carbatec 80's era finger mincer that my lathe came with.
