Anybody used cinnamon camphor Laurel? I have been offered 3 trees with tunks about 40cm diameter. The owner of the trees is cutting them out due to the close proximity of them to their house.

Is the timber any good for turning and or furniture making?

Cheers
Peter

G'day Pete - Can't say I have ever heard if Cinimon Camphor Laurel, but the regular stuff is used extensively in furniture throughout Asis. It is fantastic for blanket boxes, book cases and other areas where you don't want moths and silverfish, etc.

It also turns and finishes very well. However if you are making blanlet box or book case leave the interior panels raw. This draws moisture from the items inside and allows the natural fragrance of the timber to ward off the beasties.

Hope this is of some help.

Cinnamomum camphora.Family:lauracea.(See posting in Woodturning forum, Koala Burl.)Probably where the cinnamon bit comes from.Shows the importance of using botanical names ,as common names can vary tremendously from country to country ,state to state and even district to district.
