Well done mate. It must have really tested the Nova while you were swinging that piece in the lateral direction

Hi Dave,
That is impressive as Neil said must have been some serious stability issues I would imagine there was a fair bit of momentum with that one was there or did it run pretty well. :2tsup:
Regards Rod.

The worst thing was the lathe bouncing with the board it was bolted to. I had to turn with an elbow resting on the headstock to stabilise things.

I think the timber is blackwood. Got it from MapleMan. Turned real nice

Apparently it is meant to be a seal balancing a ball but i have had others say a woman with big ..... chest? Im sure you get the idea.

I will over time play around with some variations of the shape till i get something I really like.

I don't care what you call it from here it looks pretty good come to think about it more like fantastic. :2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

There are so many different things that can be done on a lathe and if many on here are like me they have a to do list as long as their arms and this is one to try. If it looks half as good as yours I will be a proud man.

Turns out the wood must have been on the green side.

It was sat on the floor for a four hour trip with the hrater blowing on it ..... not good lol.

It has now developed some more 'character'

Thanks for the comments all. If i can get the video of my phone app I will share thia later too

Dave ,
Is that a new drying technology?
The car road trip, please share it with us .
I do quite a few hours driving each week .
And can fit in a 2.4 metre length of timber in the back of my van.
I'm seeing a whole new revenue venture [emoji12][emoji12][emoji12]
Or am I becoming a capitalist pig [emoji20][emoji20][emoji20]

I reckon with a van full of windows you can park it in the sun and even use it like a solar kiln.

Just learn from my mistake, seal the ends and sticker your wood lol

How do you sticker a single item

Nice work Dave. I haven't watched Theo turn these at Turnfest so I should make the effort to see his demo.

Looks good!

Hmm... I wonder if you could turn two of them simultaneously, like Julio Marcelongo's(sp?) 'seaweed spurts?' Probably not, but I might have to have a go... ;)

It's all been done before no matter what it starts with the patten and as a pattern maker that is what you have to produce. Actually it starts with the drawing and goes from there.
Regards Rod.
