The Metalwork Forum is on the top of my list, followed by the Hercus section, then others.

What I really like about this forum is the friends I've made, all with like interests.

This afternoon I had the great pleasure of meeting Mal Conomy aka Allterain50 of Australian Metalworking Hobbyist. Down from Sydney, he rang and dropped in for a cuppa in the shape of a Crown Larger. We had a good chin wag talking Hercus stuff in the main.

It was really good to put a face to the voice on the other end of the phone.

My god, how I would love to see all the Hercus stuff he has accumulated over the last few years, it's a wonder FW Hercus has anything left.

Mal tells me all the etched brass plates for the 9" lathe are gone, only the 260 lathe left. This problem is soon to be addressed.

Nice meeting you mate,

Ken

I agree Ken it's a top place.

Metal workers tend to be more isolated than woodworkers and as they become even scarcer, especially in the country, these forum create a fantastic resource for these more isolated folks. At work there were always half a dozen techo types I could chew the metal with at morning tea and lunch times. Even though I still see those guys occasionally now that I'm retired the forums fill that more immediate need to find out stuff.

But it's not just about the metal work. The folks are friendly and generally tolerate the usual repeated questions with grace etc. One thing I need to improve on is to say I "like" things more, and to thank folks for their point of view.

It is a fantastic forum, I've had the pleasure of meeting three of the members on here, one from Qld, Ten ant Creek and one from Adelaide, I bought his Elliott shaper.
All fantastic blokes and nothing is tooo much trouble, others on here, are more than generous, giving stuff away and not asking a cent to help cover postage.
Thanks Guys for the friendship.
