Well everyone - I did it - I not only got the courage to enter a bobbin in the local show but also entered 6 of my husbands turned pens.

The judging was yesterday but the pavilion is not open to the public until this afternoon but :) I got a peak and ...... are you sitting down?

We won first and third in the class - Constructed Hardwood Article!!!

What a buzz!

Ditto on the 'grats. You'll have to convince the other half to build a cabinet to hold next years' trophies... ;)

These are the photos taken at the show today - I get to pick the items up tomorrow and will do better photos for the website. The first is the pens and bobbin turning by husband (3rd place) & I (1st place), the second is the 2nd place piece.

BTW for those of you who have been watching my progress on the site - the URL is http://www.brandis.com.au/craft/lace.html

After seeing this maybe we should have a forum where awards can be shown by forum members, awards etcNot as one upmanship but as appreciation and respect for those who are members of this forum and in a way our extended family to show their achievements .
Well done Jenny and though you couldn't make them with a plane I still appaluad your efforts and well deserved awards

The trouble with life is there's no background music.

I do not know if you are aware of Bonnie Klein. She is a turner specialising in threads and has even developped a special machine to thread small boxes. Here is what I tried to realise. The box is 6 cm (about 2 inches)

Now that is some impressive work, especially the decoration at the top as it looks *exactly* like the label on some old wooden thread reels I have.

Sheesh!!!
cheers
