Great effort Dales133. Looks like it will be a great little teardrop.

A bit different to a normal tear drop, I take it that the sub floor area is for storage/water tanks and some extra clearance for off road work

Very nice. :2tsup:

Do you have any idea what it will weigh when finished?

Yea its a little different.
Its based on the same wheel width as my landcrusier and the floor plan is based on a queen matress.
Underneath ive got a 200mm pvc pipe for fishing rods in the center and draws pulling out the rear 1500 long either side for storage.
There will be hatches either side for access to the front portion.
A 90l water tank is slung underneath by the axle.
At this stage im unsure of the finished weight but i hope to get it on a weigh bridge soo.
Im hoping for about 600 -700kg but i realy havnt kept a close telly on it thus far.
The walls only weigh about 10kg bare but they need exterior skins ect yet

Skinned the sides this weekend and ran the cables for the porch lights and internal reading lights.
Was happy with progress considering the weather.
Hope to flush trim tomorrow

Nice work. Is the ply the final finish or are you putting aluminium on the outside also? Thinking about making one of these, did you find plans for it or is it your own design?

Hey there,
Its loosely based on the "generic benroy plans" witch can be found easily enough with google.
Mines longer,wider and much higher.
The galley is alot different too.
The sides will be covered in painted canvas witch will be glued to the ply with tightbond2.
The roof, front and rear hatch will be covered in aluminium.
You should make one you can spend as much or as little as you want.
Happy to help any way i can.
Cheers dale

Hi Dales, what is the thickness of the ply that went on the roof and the sides? Is it ordinary ply or marine ply and what timber did you use for the frame?
Looking good:2tsup:

I used kd hardwood for almost all of the frame and the external ply is 3mm single ply with a super thin veneer glued on one side.
Its not marine ply but it is hardwood ply so its verry resistant to water.
Once its encapsulated in glue canvas and paint unless there is a catastrophic failure somewhere water should never reach the ply skin.

Here is the latest part of my project, the dreaded hatch.
I decided to go without the traditional inner skin and went for spotted gum ribs and spars.
This is pre polyurathane, 3rd coat went on last night.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/06/dfcc7a85d54a8a0192f2e61d18b79b7d.jpg

I put 3 coats of cabbots cpf floof varnish on and sanded between coats where needed with 240 and 600.
Then i knocked it all back after the 3rd coat with 2000 and 1200 where needed and the odd spot id missed or had a small defect with 240.
It looks pretty good now ive aplied what i hope is my finishing coat and while i like it super smoothe to the touch in the imprtant areas where people will habitualy touch and the rest just needs to look good and hopefuly have that quality polished look rather than cheap gloss....if you know what i mean.
Any advice on how to proceed please let me know.
I think i didnt realy put this thread in a verry good area for a build thread so to speak.
Anyway these photos i just took coat 5.

I started writing everything down when i started it,when it got to 2000 bucks for the trailer, water tank and doors i threw it away and didnt think about it again
Ive spent alot of money on fixtures and fittings i didnt need to but wanted as well.
You could build something similar depending on choice of exterior for between 3 and 5 grand.
Mine will be over that a bit but ive gone over the top.
Im building a simpiler one when this is done i hope to do for around 3000 or so.
