Saw this today, anybody familiar with it? Aside from cranking the handle to grind the tool and turning the knob to adjust the depth of cut, can the angle of the tool be adjusted and what is the pivoting arm at front?

This may be a red herring but might that have started life as a thin-section grinder and or saw for use in a geological laboratory? Formally called a petrographic grinder I think.

They used to worth a small fortune...

I think that similar saws and grinders are used in the jewlery trade for preparing things like Opal Triplets.

Many thousands of years ago I had a job which, amongst other things, involved preparing such thin-section slides in a university laboratory.
