After 6 coats of shellac, I will leave the handle finish for 5 days to further harden before buffing to a shine.

5 tonne of hydraulic pressure to imprint the makers stamp onto the hardback. No distortion of the hardback which is great news.

At this early stage I have placed the stamp location at the forward 1/3 distance of exposed brass back. Feedback is welcome if you feel that should be changed to a more central location.

Saw plate assembly seated within the handle. The numeral pencil marks on the saw bolts will be removed at the end of the saw build.

The next step will be to file the saw teeth. 12 tpi; 10* rake; 0 fleam .

Stewie

The stamp looks awkward there, not sort of wrong just awkward .
I think for once I may agree with traditional thinking and prefer it centred on the spine.
But other wise another great saw .

That maple looks brilliant Stewie, :2tsup: it reminds me a bit of the Lie Nielsen saws, ( although yours is better quality ) :)

Stewie,

Since you seem interested in and open to feedback, I have to agree that I would like to see the stamp in the middle of the spine.

That being said, it could just be me conforming to tradition on a subconscious level. At first I didn't really notice it. It was more of a feeling that "something is different here...".

But after it was pointed out it was kind of an "oh, right" moment.

Still a fantastic saw, as usual.

Looking forward to the completed photos.

After making a purpose built jig to hold the brass back assembly in position under the press the quality of the stamp imprint has much improved, with the required force down from 7 to 5 tonne. A very pleasing result.

Beautiful saw. I like the off center stamp but think it would look better on the back 1/3.
Beautiful work.

Stewie;

I think centered would look more balanced, but it's not a big deal. Do you find the brass distorting much when you stamp it? What I mean, does it close up the blade slot?

I like the saw and agree with the others, the stamp impression should be centered both left/right and also top/bottom.

Hi Ray. Appreciate your thoughts. I will center the stamp on the next backsaw build to compare the difference. The key to eliminating any potential distortion of the slot during pressing is to make sure any clearance between the slot and the blade is eliminated by the adhesive. My preference; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NUT-THREAD-LOCK-MEDIUM-STRENGTH-V843-BLUE-50ML-BOTTLE-USA-QUALITY-MANUFACTURER-/360604552014?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item53f5b4cb4e

Thanks Rob. Appreciate your thoughts. I am happy to center the stamp length ways, but I will leave its vertical position unchanged.

Another really nice saw! In regards to the stamp I think it could be a little higher up, but that doesn't bother me very much. The current front third does look wrong to me though. So I'd vote for centred.

Based on earlier comment I'm thinking your stamping with the blade glued into the spine?

Hi Dale. That's correct.

Stewie, great work. FWIW my view is centre <--I-->. And, lower 1/3 ˄˅, which looks like where you have it.

The completed Queensland Myrtle backsaw.

I have also provided a photo of the previously made Black Walnut Backsaw with the stamp positioned more to the center of the hardback's length. (much better option)

(Unfortunately the clarity of brass back stamps did not show up very within both of these photo's.)

Send me a pm if your interested in purchasing one of these backsaws.

Late to the party as always. Don't get around much these days. :)
I do prefer the more golden saw, myself. But both look very nice. As far as the location of the stamp, I actually prefer the center of the plate. I generally center any logo on the plate first then simply draw a vertical line to center the back etch/ stamp. I have seen them all over the place. So this is just a preference for me. Best wishes.
