I have an old woodfast jointer but the tables are not parallel. Indeed and outfeed move in dovetail slides and there appears to be no way to adjust tables to be parallel. I hope I'm wrong so maybe someone can set me straight.
Off to the workshop soon to take photos and have another look.

Hugh, jointer tables are not supposed to be parallel. The infeed table is to be slightly lower than the out feed table. ie the outfeed table is to be level with the top of the knife in the drum and the infeed table about a millimeter lower.

They are both supposed to be co planer.

Have a look at this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO746cuRqV4) vid from the wood whisperer.

Thanks Pat,
I'll check out the video and i have had a look at past posts.
Seems to be that the first step is to strip it, clean it, lubricate it and put it back together (ohh, to have the life of luxury that would allow such frivolous excess)
i don't want to get into a philosophical argument or anything:), but (as i understand it) technically to be co planar the tables would have to be both parallel planes AND at exactly the same level (co planer = on the same plane).

As a jointer, the planes (tables) need to be parallel, but they also need to be NOT co planer as there needs to be a depth of cut.
Perhaps if i had said 'parallel planes' rather than just 'parallel'? (parallel plane = planes that do not intersect )

Pat, I hope you forgive my pedantisnm but I think you have co-planar and parallel around the wrong way.

The tables should be parallel not co planar.
