Well hello everybody I had picked up a few pieces of figured White Oak the last time to the mill and thought I would try for a very thin shallow bowl
with an inward curving lip here's what I came up with. 10" x 1.5" Bowl
First time turning Oak,

Thanks dai and Cliff I have two or three more boards of this wood but there only one inch thick; next time I'll lay up a thicker blank.

Hi splinterz25,
Thank you for posting you're bowl a beautiful piece of work, I appreciate the work in getting a nice thin bowl with an undercut like this.

Thank you Cliff, Smife and Rod yes cutting the under cut was a challenge this is very hard wood and I don't have a Swan neck cutter as of yet; a large bowl gouge and swan neck cutter are on my short list of tools to get just need some $ale$ to pay for them.

My initial thoughts are WOW. I love the figure in that wood.

Did you know it was like this when you purchased it or was it more pot luck?

Thanks Tim and Cristos....You could see the figure in the wood when I bought it, the guy at the mill pulled these pieces of wood for me and set them aside for me, because he knows I'm a wood turner; he's a wood turner as well and knows what to look out for.
