A friend of mine is digging up a pony tail tree, is it any good as turning timber?

I think it is more fiber than wood but some people do turn palm trees.

Agree with John probably very fibres. You may have to get into casting and stabilisation

I wouldn't fancy it on a lathe.
I cut one down with a chainsaw last year. It was very fibrous & very wet. Made one hell of a mess.
Took me nearly an hour to clean the chainsaw, had to strip it out to basics.

I cut out a huge one last year and kept a block of it just to see what would happen to it - basically a big bundle of loose fibres but I do intend to turn an egg from it for my collection in the next week or two! Amazing bit was how little there is holding the tree to the deck! :oo: Just a few skinny roots here and there and the bark continues right around the ball shaped bottom.
