Jello all

Oh no, Junkboy is at it agian, Blah Blah Blah.. Talking about another sander Blah Blah Blah. another sander prodject setting in his work shop taking up space and collectioin dust.

Wait! What is this ?? He actuly made somthing that works, and is uasble.

In another post some one asked about an home build Edge sander. I left a link to a place where you can order a back iusse of ShopNotes 37# for a nice sander to build. I built this sander in the winter in my shop and I have put it to the test. The sander is MDF and was bear untill this week. I just added some dark green paint ( orange is so ..... you know ) to help seal the MDF and give it a better look. Tonight I finished triming the lamanite top for the sander. Only thing I have to do is make the dust hood and run the flex line for the DC. Boy can this guy make dust :) I'm working on my web page and will have a page devoted to this sander with a complete photo index of it in the making. Here are some Pics of it.

And the last one of the right side. Here is the power switch, motor cover and the dust hood will mount around this drum when finished.

I did do some things different from the palns. the motor is Derict drive inline with the drive drum. The right Leg is made up of one peice of 3/4" MDF and one 3/4 Balistic bearch ply glued together, + shorter to alow me to put wheals on a board and mount it the the right leg. I just left the left side and push or pull it like a wheel barrow. The BB ply is just for strengh so I dont break off the leg pushing it around.

This whole prodject cost me $230 buck-a-runies. the motor is a 2 HP sealed, from Harbor Freight Tools. The barings are from a industrial supplier and aluminum form the metal scrap yard. I guess I'm luck I live 2 blocks form H F Tools, a ACE Hardware store and 4 miles from from a scrap yard that has scrap form the 3 local aircraft manufactures

That's awesome. Might have to tack that onto the 'to build' list, which is starting to look like a telephone directory...

Great job. :D

That edge sander looks like it means busines, in other words it looks great. Wish I had a bigger shop, mine is 14' x 20'. I was playing with the idea of building one of those monsters since I have about 30 or so 6" x 98" belts, from 36 grit up to 100 grit. Then I settled for the drum sander, takes up less space. I am cutting the belts to fit the drum and get two wraps plus about 10" left over.

By the way, any news on your powerfeed for the drum sander. Have you got all the quirks ironed out, like the tracking adjustment etc.? Wouldn't mind seeing a video of the rig in action.
