Thank you for posting the above.
Definitely something to investigate further.
without being picky, some one should tell the author that he should be chopping his mortices over one of the legs of his bench, rather than the middle of the span.

not a fair comparison.
those benches are 3 to 5 times thicker than the one Joshua Klein is using
besides, the artisan mortising is working close to a leg, not mid-span
