Luckily I was getting to the last couple of final finishing passes when I heard the not unfamiliar tic, tic, tic, toc, toc, toc, bang, bang, bang, sounds. Turned the lathe off and I’d smoothed the side of a nail, as well as the inside of the bowl.

So, finished sanding etc etc and I’ve ended up with a nice little natural edged bowl, made from Native Frangipani, with embedded steel nail embellishment.

Bugger. Coat it with something so you don't end up with a rusty embellishment

Not such a bugger really Neil, the chisel sharpened up again OK, and the bowl has an unusual extra feature. Worth an additional $1, at least.

Hi Smiife
Same problem, 2 different solutions. The little challenges along the way make it interesting.
I like the mango bowl, should be a good looking piece when finished. The DO should give a lovely finish - I use Kunos Oil which gives a similar lustre.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers

That's more than just an extra $1. Nice shape, and a little history from someone, if you could track down the person who put the nail in the tree... Jerry (in Tucson)

Looks good to me, I would say you "nailed" it.

I love the accidental embellishment.
