SWMBO bought me a drawing for my last birthday: It's quite a spectacular drawing of a wedge-tailed eagle in coloured pencil and was produced by a local artist. Reputedly there are 175 colours in it, but I haven't counted.

Anyhow, after a few weeks we stuck it up over the doorway into our improvised office. That makes it sound a little more grand than it really is as houses from WW1 in Millmerran certainly didn't have an office. Wealthy land owners might have had an escritoire but not an office. It is just part of the enclosed verandah.

So here it is flying over the doorway. It seemed appropriate for such a majestic creature:

Quite a handsome bird really and the the picture is rather like an illustration from a bird encyclopedia:

I got to thinking how I could enhance this and this is what I came up with:

and the caption is........ (please scroll down) wait for it......

"Sawing with Eagles."

Ps. I took the opportunity to do this while SWMBO was in Toowoomba. The status quo has been restored and no one will ever know except you and me. I did broach the subject as a joke a while back and the reception I received has led me to believe it would not be looked upon favourably. I took them back down because I didn't want it to become a saw point.

I take it that had you left them there, it would have been a 'sore' point

It looks to me that your eagle was cowering in the shaddow of the large span of your Simmond's as it feared it may be cut down as prey neve to saw again

Well spotted Dave.

That is a Simonds No.5 the eagle is eyeing off. Full depth. Anybody would be wary of that used in anger!

Oh dear Alan; What have I started? You'll get me dumped unceremoniously from the hand tools section and relegated to the "jokes."

To quote a famous cartoon bird "You're dithpicable!" :U

Would have made a good starter for a caption competition thread.:2tsup:

Hey Bob,

Ah, the nostalgia of the caption thread long since gone the way of the Dodo.

:D

I nearly got sprung. I had moved a pot plant off the top of the right hand bookshelf and forgot to put it back.

SWMBO: "Why's this pot plant on the table?"

Me "You are not the only one who moves things around!"

SWMBO: "In this house I am. You move things in the shed."

Me: " :- ."

But it was not pursued so I got away with it.

I think there are few people giving it a pretty good go here!

Perhaps it had run it's race as it petered out.

Careful now. I wouldn't like to have to set a saw on you.

Shades of Basil Fawlty there.

I'm enjoying a quiet chuckle.

Impressive ceiling height. :)

I bet there was an internal struggle over which saw was going to be facing towards the wall ... :p

Paul

Ceilings are 10'.

There was indeed an internal struggle: On two fronts in fact. Firstly my first choice of saw was Disston's "Victory" saws as they have that very impressive eagle etch. It would have been perfect and I have several of those saws, but they are all awaiting restoration so the etches are still under grime.

My restored saws are still in the exhibition at our local library, which doesn't get pulled down until this coming Tuesday: That is the exhibition; The library will still be standing.

So I had to select from what was left. The Simonds is an impressive saw with a handle so similar to a Disston No.12, but the etch, although full, is faint and difficult to show with my poor photographic skills. The D-95 hybrid on the other hand has a good etch so it got to display the full monty.

It also gave me the opportunity to point out I have two more of those in the Marketplace at the moment  .

Rather than the saws, my eye was caught by the bird:D

Can you tell me the name of the artist please?

That's an awful thing to say, but it's the festive season so I forgive you.

Nola Sindel is the artist. "Nola Sindel artist" brings up her work on Google including my eagle!!!

Thanks Paul, haven't seen her work before, I actually thought it may have been by Jeremy Boot. I have quite a few of his as well as his book.

I'll have a look at her work.

Once I'm finished with the current project in the shed, I'm building a frame to house my "special" S&J saws. Paul, how do I broach the subject of placement of the framed saws in the house with my wife? :?

Tell her they are butcher's saws and that they need to go in the kitchen. Make arrangements to have them bequeathed to Pittwater Pete in case things don't go according to plan. He likes S & Js as do many others.
