I want to make my own swing away tailstock for my Vicmarc VL300.

The plate that attaches to the bed, I was thinking of using 10mm plate steel, the bed mill steel bar to match original bed.
Supports underneath bed attach the with high tensile cup head screws.
All made from plate steel.

What would I use for hinges?

Where can I get or what can I use for the clip to hold it closed?

Any advice etc will be greatly appreciated.

just copy the image you have here. One question how will you fix the hinge to the bed?

The bed extension are bolted on so use
the existing holes on lathe bed,
offset them on the swing away.
