Well I have finished my outer island, what a nice change my first boat build has been, I have been on the water three times now and I love it she tracks well, is fast and quite lively, I do have some new skills to learn, I'm still treaking the seat I made and a bit more tweaking on the back rest is needed.
I started in August and hit the water on the 23 of December I really enjoyed the build I loved the stripping there is somthing special about pushing a sharp plain along a thin piece of timber, I found there was way more sanding than I ever expected it can't all be fun I spose.
My next project is a greenland paddle
Here's a few pics

What, you don't like sanding? What's wrong with you?:U

Looks really good John, job well done :2tsup:

I know what it's like to hit the water with a home built boat and find it works. You must have had an extra happy Christmas.

There's a plan somewhere on the net that shows how to make a GP out of a 1 inch thick board. It involves cutting sections out of the middle of each edge and glueing them in the centre of the sides to create the correct thickness for the loom.

Thanks labr@,
I have a few bits of western red that I didn't rip into strips so Im going to laminate them, I putt the boat on the scales today 16.2 kgs I don't know how that compairs to the weight of other builds.

My cedar strip boat weighs between 14 and 15 kg. It has a transom so is quite wide right up to the stern but it is also over 6 feet shorter than yours so I think you have done well.

John, you're right in the ballpark for that size and shape puddle jumper. Yeah sure, you could have been lighter with some species choices, but it wouldn't have been as pretty either. You've done a nice job and she looks good in the medium she was intended. Congratulations and have fun.
