View Full Version : Ceder Thickness

I have over time collected some red ceder(from an old miners couch and an old door from a house. I promised the wife a keepsake for the kids, ie keepsake/jewellry box.

My query is that I am unsure of what thickness I should use, as some of the timber needs to be resawn.
The dimensions roughly would be in the vicinity of 12"X9"X5" high.
Any advice would be appreciated

In advance
thanks

Tony

hi tomarton,
i build alot of jewellry boxes and i would suggest going for a thickness of around 13 mm
too bulky and heavy if you go much thicker !
another suggestion if you havent allready thought of it is not to mix the 2 lots of cedar, ie make the box out of the door and the internals out of the couch. or viceversa
which ever gives you the best figure.
